Wow, that’s an incredible emotional rollercoaster!
It feels like your grandmother did everything she could do to pass on her culture to you in a way that was not obvious at a time when it would have been dangerous or at least frowned upon to be open about it.
The Jen who came back from Sweden is not the Jen who left. You discovered a whole part of your identity you didn’t know anything about and this is traumatic at the best of times, even more so when working on a project like Farmor Stina. From what I can see, you are dealing with it in the healthiest way possible by embracing it and we’re all here to support your transformation from Swedish Jen to Tornedalian Jen.
Yeah, this is going to take time for me to process and I’ll have a chat with my family once I’m a bit less raw about it all.
And I’m already designing a foil print in my head that’s of a Tornedalian woman. Think those foil prints of the white haired witches, but make it Tornedalian. So a woman who’s losing her mind in a pretty pattern aesthetic way~ Maybe I’ll be cheeky and have her pop a tit out.
