“Devour Me” gets… Devoured! (Thank you!)

HECK

Before I even jump into my rambles:

IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR YOU WHO PRE-ORDERED THE PDF OF THE ZINE:

It SHOULD have arrived in your email like a week ago (from contact@jenniegyllblad.co.uk), if you haven’t received it – check your spam folder – and if it’s still not there, please tell me and I will have to re-send the link to you! I’ve had a couple of people contact me to ask where their PDF is, so clearly my email hasn’t reached some of you ๐Ÿ™ I wish it was automated – I’m sorry!

I’m (as usual) in catch-up-mode, doing a bunch of important admin things (I keep saying “PCI HELL” to people and always get at least one person asking “What is PCI”, so maybe I need to make a dedicated open post about that and link to it whenever The Hell comes around again…).

One of these admin things has been the fulfilment of my first art zine AND lil DIY “Catstarter”: Devour Me.

It wasn’t supposed to be a pre-order thing on my website – It was supposed to go to Kickstarter, as is standard for my books. But, as you know, a certain processor got all funny about the painted tits and ass, so we had to Do It Ourselves, again. I whipped up a quick DIY “kickstarter page” on my own website and transferred all the stuff over there, and… Then you filth-connoisseurs went ahead and pre-ordered it!

Thanks to you, I got enough pre-orders for a small first print-run of 200 copies – all done locally.

The printers also got it done early enough that I could even soft-launch it at my biggest comic con of the year: Thoughtbubble!

And it sold really well!

(To nobody’s surprise, the favourite spread was the one with Leg Trout.)

The weekend after Thoughtbubble was HEX – the original reason for this monsterfucking zine existing in the first place. HEX is a sex-positive market that’s held in a converted church (I’m working on a recap post of my experience there). Selling porn comics while being surrounded by whips and paddles and tentacles in a church was… quite something. I had a *brilliant* time ๐Ÿ˜€

That fucking leg trout though. It will haunt me to my grave…

(Sami continues to be a legend)

The zine had a steady stream of sales at the market as well, now from a different crowd than a comic con one – proving to me that people do actually want at least a small book of my art. I think the price-point helped, with the zine only being ยฃ4, it’s among the cheapest books I sell.

I’ve now gone ahead and listed the remaining first print run stock on my regular shop, so if you missed pre-ordering it (or buying it in person from me), you can go get it here:

There’s also a listing of the PDF – and because it’s in my regular shop, the delivery of it will be automated as usual!

SO. . . Finally:

What do we think? About THE FUTURE of this thing.

I asked someone I know at Kickstarter about my project and what was considered “too adult” about it. They had a closer look and said that Stripe has started really clamping down on visible sex acts (yes, even painted ones) on the project pages. So, even though all of my art was heavily censored, it didn’t matter. It was censoring sex acts, so that was an immediate flag.

My contact at Kickstarter has said they’ll help me make sure it passes the processor test if I do want to give it a go over there.

And now that I know people actually liked this, I want to make a thicker book.

I’m not in a rush at all – and honestly – I want to get back to making my smut comics first and foremost. But I think you lovely gutter dwellers can expect more monsterfucking art in the near future. I’m going to slowly make more and see if I can produce a proper little art book and then take that to Kickstarter. Maybe I’ll sneak an exclusive monsterfuckin’ comic in there too, because I can’t help myself!

Thank you for supporting your local little weirdo gutter-art-gremlin <3
