What’s happening?
I got a temporary suspension from Twitch about a week ago, which, in hindsight actually turned out to be a bit of a blessing in disguise. Because what it did was kick me into gear to actually set up my own livestreaming page right here on my website! Spite is a great motivator. So is fear, of course.
What is this “Owncast” thing?
In essence, with all the nerd-speak filtered away, Owncast is a self-hosted Twitch. So it’s a livestream – just like Twitch – but it’s here on my website, under my own roof! Once I’ve gotten used to it all, I will be doing a proper simple tutorial/explanation for anyone else who may want to give it a go (or just want to be nosy about how the sausage is made, that’s fine too!)
WHAT ABOUT TWITCH?? Are you quitting?!
No! I am still going to be on Twitch! Don’t worry! I will also multistream some days, allowing me to be on Twitch AND my website at the same time! Technology – it’s quite something, isn’t it.

Would you like to go on a bit of a stress-testing journey with me while I tell you more of my plans >:)
So, when the whole twitch ban happened, I had friends over on the Fedi get in touch to see if I needed help setting up my own thing. Ozoned introduced me to his nerd friends, one of them being Logan Fick, who is a Cybersecurity-Server-Man. (If anyone reading this right now is like: Wow, I really want more info about the server stuff that hosts Jen’s tits and ass: Here you go)
By the power of nerds in a discord channel, I got all of my bits and bobs connected to Logan’s server stuff, and my owncast all set up. Now, all we needed to do was to check if it… Well.. y’know. WORKED.
So, I did a test multistream, that was just as messy as you’d expect – but by the end of it the hivemind had helped me set my chat up!

After the success of that first multistream and with a long list of things still to fix: I decided to do a second admin/stress test stream on Owncast ONLY.

After these two tests being such a success, I’m really excited to start this new Era of Livestreaming!
Future streams and *gasp* schedule(??)
The baking charity stream got wrecked because of the twitch ban and subsequent need to DIY a new streaming service (me also getting a cold didn’t help) – But I have not forgotten about it and, in fact, I think it can actually be even better now, because when I do it, I will be able to multistream the baking! Which means more eyes on the cause too! So let me get OBS and Owncast properly set up and then we will make some absolutely dogshit cookies to hopefully raise a few coins for Overtornea Hembygdsforening >:)
TWITCH streams will continue as and when I feel like it. Pretty much the standard way we’ve been doing it for the last year.
But, for Owncast, I am actually attempting a schedule! I can’t promise I will be able to keep this up, you know what I’m like, but let’s actually try.

I intend to record all streams and keep the VODs. So the only thing that’ll actually be behind a future pay-wall is access to said VODs. All my studio members will get that!
